Why we built this

Freight fraud is up an estimated 400% since 2020. The numbers in industry reports do not show the worst part: most of those losses are absorbed by small carriers who do not have an in-house compliance team, an expensive vetting subscription, or a lawyer on retainer. They had a load, they had a phone call, they had a rate confirmation that looked right, and now the load is gone or the invoice is unpaid.

We started Haulock because the tools that already existed were either built only for brokers (vetting carriers in one direction) or priced for enterprise fleets (hundreds of dollars a month, before you make a single lookup). The carrier with three trucks could not afford them. The owner-operator running a single rig had nothing at all.

What Haulock actually does

Every lookup runs up to 14 sources in parallel: FMCSA SAFER for authority and address, FMCSA L&I for insurance and surety bond, FMCSA SMS for inspection and crash history, public WHOIS and DNS for domain age and email infrastructure, Google Places for address verification, Google Safe Browsing for known threat domains, Brave Search across 50+ trusted news outlets, plus our own community fraud network and historical snapshot archive going back five years.

We also analyze rate confirmation PDFs with Claude AI to extract the broker, the carrier, and the load, then cross-check the broker email domain against their FMCSA-registered website to catch lookalike domains. The whole scan finishes in about two seconds.

What we believe

Verification should be free for the small operator. Our Free plan includes lookups every month with no credit card. The plan structure scales with fleet size, not vetting volume.
Public data should be presented honestly. The data inside a Haulock report comes from FMCSA, public WHOIS, public search, and other public sources. We display it. We do not invent it. We do not pretend a high score is a verdict of fraud.
Both sides need protection. Carriers need to verify brokers. Brokers need to verify carriers. Same engine, same scoring, same playbook.
Speed beats perfection. A scan that takes 30 minutes is a scan that does not get run. We made it fast enough to run on every load, not just the ones that smell wrong.

What we are not

We are not a recommendation engine. We are not a credit bureau. We are not a freight broker, a carrier, a factor, an insurer, or law enforcement. A high Haulock score is a signal that should slow you down. A low score is not a guarantee. You still call the broker on a phone number you got independently. You still verify the load with the shipper. We make those checks fast and cheap; we do not replace your judgment.
